Introduction to the JOA

The Job Opportunities Assessment, determines if you are cognitively capable of performing in the training, and career of your desired position in the ADF. Careers in the military are high intensity, the JOA is the first step in assessment to see if you are ready and capable of becoming enlisted.
The Job Opportunities Assessment is an online test, it has 51 questions to be completed in 20 minutes. This gives you 23.5 seconds per question.
Realistically you should aim to complete each question in around 10-15 seconds. This allows you to allocate time to questions in which you may find more difficult.
The JOA determines wether or not you unlock your desired career. Some of the careers in the ADF are highly competitive. For these roles, you must prove you have adequate cognition through the JOA.
You can only complete the JOA 3 times, with a minimum wait of 6 months to complete it again. Most candidates wait 1 year to complete it again, because to complete it again after 6 months you must request it under special circumstances.
